The Camargue or Burgundy ?
The Burgundy
Burgundy is also steeped in history although a French history of Dukes and Kings, Castle and Abbeys not forgetting the wine. This area is known as deep France. Here, even today, tradition rules your life.
The Bugrundians are fiercely proud of their heritage and their land. This is Gods' country and they will not let you forget it. There are traditional ways of doing everything, from cooking to wine making, from a wedding ceremony to buying a drink at the bar. They are warm and hospitable people but cannot see the reason to change their ways as they have worked so well for so long. Deep France.
The Camargue
The Camargue is Western Europe's largest wetland wilderness. The cruise takes you through the Rhone Delta, from wooded banks passed reed beds as far as the eye can see onwards to the shallow salt lakes. Famous for its black bulls, wild white horses and its Flamingos the Camargue is a nature lover's paradise. Here, Mother Nature allows the local inhabitants to stay and make their livelihood but you feel that at any time she could remove any trace of mankind at will.
Everywhere you find influences of the Romans, the Moors, the Spaniards and the Italians and even sometimes the French. There are working cowboys, bullfights, Christian festivals world heritage roman sites and huge areas of unspoilt countryside with few roads and signs of the 21st century. The history of the region is formed from Mediterranean cultures and Invaders.
